Maurice Benard suffers in real life, as well has his character on screen, Sonny Corinthos, with the same mental illness. Benard was diagnosed with Bi-polar disorder, and is open about what he has gone through, his treatment, growth, and life, involving this disorder. On screen, Sonny Corinthos faces the same struggles as the actor who portrays him, along with his TV son, Morgan, played by Bryan Craig.
