If you know Port Charles and General Hospital history regarding the relationship between Lucy Coe and Rafe Kovich, you were probably wondering why Lucy wasn’t there by his side at the time of his passing. Fans were outraged at the fact that the only person who knew Rafe as a child (other than his uncle Dr. Silas Clay), was not there for him when he needed comfort from family the most.
Although Lucy wasn’t there at the time of Rafe’s death, it was shown that Lucy had found out the tragic news after the fact. Lucy stumbled into The Floating Rib and she was crying. She was able to express her feelings to her good friend, Felicia.
General Hospital’s Head Writer, Ron Carlivati, explains why Lucy wasn’t present in the hospital when Rafe died. “There was so much story going on at the hospital with Molly and Rafe, with Alice.” he said. “It was one more character to add into that mix and the days just became too big and too complicated. So, we decided to give Lucy her own separate moment after the fact (to mourn Rafe).”
