Andy Cohen is under-fire for insensitive comments made during Prime-time special on the entire Soap Opera genre. “The Story of Soaps,” aired on Tuesday night with Andy Cohen as an interviewee. Cohen recently took to Twitter to respond to backlash he is receiving from Soap Opera actors, crew, and fans alike. In response Cohen states, “I went to the interview as a soap fan prepped to talk soaps, and they asked about reality tv and I answered their questions. Sue me!”
In Tuesday night’s special, Cohen name dropped the legendary Susan Lucci, best known for her role as Erica Kane, in the iconic Daytime Drama, All My Children. Cohen says, “I know (Susan) Lucci doesn’t agree with me, but I think that the Housewives have replaced soap operas because truth is stranger than fiction. Soaps became kind of unnecessary because you could do it with real people, and they’re writing the drama themselves.” Twitter has been explosive with all the comments from soap fans, angrily tweeted about the utter disrespect for the genre. Fans are calling him the ‘biggest soap villain’ referencing the notorious daytime plots containing token bad guys. General Hosputal’s Wally Kurth, who plays Ned Ashton and Laura Wright, aka, Carly Corinthos, weighed in on Twitter in a response to Soap Journalist, Carolyn Hinsey.
In September of 2003, the iconic AMC Daytime Soap, All My Children was cancelled. It was an end of an era for many, yet Soap Opera fans still clung on to their other favorite daytime shows that were still standing. The actors moved on and their characters played will live on in some way or another.
Recent General Hospital news and spoilers indicate a possible arrival for AMC star Vincent Izizarry to bring the character, David Hayward to General Hospital. The actor told Soaps In Depth, that he is open to bringing this character to a new town, that town being, Port Charles.

Yesterday, November 12th, Soap Opera Breaking News took the soap fandom by storm as the biggest announcement in recent years regarding the soap world was published. It has been confirmed that the entire cast of NBC‘s Days of Our Lives has been released from their contracts.
So you’re probably wondering, what does this mean? Well, it means that all the actors, and the entire staff (lighting, music, etc.) are free to go out and seek new work. They are no longer bound to their contracts, as now DOOL is on indefinite hiatus.
The show is taped about 8 months in advance and it has been reported, there are enough episodes to take the soap opera through Summer. Hopefully by then, the network and show executives will have come up with a solution to keep the nation’s longest running soap opera in production. Lower salaries for the cast has been mentioned as a requirement if the soap does return.
What does this mean for ABC‘s General Hospital? General Hospital is ABC‘s only surviving Daytime Drama after the cancellation of All My Children (ended 2013) and One Life to Live (ended 2012).
Thankfully, DOOL is on an entirely different television network than that of GH, which is on ABC. If it is a cost issue within the network, it doesn’t have anything to do with the status of ABC‘s, General Hospital. There is always a chance the network could follow suit and try something like this to cut costs. There has been no word of this happening to General Hospital over at ABC.
General Hospital Blog will keep fans updated on the status of DOOL. Stay tuned to General Hospital! We cannot lose our show!
This is one piece of General Hospital news that has been kept under wraps. Shocking General Hospital spoiler reveals that All My Children’s Rebecca Budig, who played Greenlee Smythe from 1999-2011. She was a fan favorite, and even in her time away from AMC, she was missed tremendously by fans, and the actress returned to Pine Valley to reprise her role.
General Hospital Executive Producer, Frank Valentini revealed via Twitter, that Rebecca Budig will be joining the cast of General Hospital.
Valentini asks fan to join him and Head Writer, Ron Carlivati, in welcoming Ms. Budig to the cast!

There has been an ongoing battle between the production company that is re-launching the online soaps All My Children and One Life to Live with ABC. News reports today stated that Prospect Park is suing ABC for 25 million dollars over the licensing agreement they had with ABC regarding the actors and character names from All My Children and One Life to Live. The main issues were heated in previous months regarding the status of the three OLTL characters General Hospital “borrowed” from Prospect Park. After the announcement last week that Kristen Alderson (ex-Starr Manning), Michael Easton (ex-John McBain/Caleb Morley/Stephen Clay), and Roger Howarth (ex-Todd Manning) would be returning to GH May 10th 2013, most likely as new characters, the situation went up in flames. Prospect Park claims that the agreement stated that ABC could borrow seven OLTL characters for General Hospital to keep them employed and appear sparingly on GH.
Prospect Park has filed a breach of contract lawsuit against ABC, complaining that they have broken the licensing agreement and have been trying to sabotage the production process for the AMC and OLTL online series. Prospect Park claims that “in the ultimate act of bad faith, ABC inexplicably killed off two OLTL characters on loan to GH by having their car forced off a cliff. ABC effectively killed off another major OLTL character, who was not licensed to ABC, revealing that this long standing OLTL character is in fact another character (alter ego) on GH.”
Prospect Park accuses an ABC executive of openly wishing All My Children and One Life to Live’s relaunch to fail.
The process of the lawsuit and Prospect Park’s request to go to trial with have no baring on the launch date for these two online soaps. They remain to launch next week, April 29th, 2013.
