For about the last year I have been searching high and low for an all natural/organic mascara. I had read that mascara can be one of the most toxic of all the cosmetics because of the potential for it containing mercury. Not to mention, last year my eyelashes started falling out in chunks. I was really concerned as I wondered if it was some sort of underlying health issue. I put things into perspective and evaluated the situation. My hair (on my head) was still thick and I hadn’t noticed any loss or thinning, my weight was the same, and my overall health remained unchanged. This brought me to the thoughts of perhaps it was the mascara itself that was causing my lashes to fall out. Between curling them and putting mascara on I thought I was being too hard on my lashes.
After trying many different department store and drug store brands and having the same issue, I finally gave up. I had it with mascara but I needed a real solution, because long lashes are a must in girl world. That’s when I turned to Waxelene, the Vaseline, petroleum jelly alternative. I bought that, (which is an amazing product that I will touch base on in another post), so that I could curl my lashes with the curler and set them with the Waxelene. My idea was great and it worked wonders. Especially with eyeliner, it looked as if I was wearing a bit of mascara and it set my lashes in the curl all day long. It was great, and I continued using it for about 9 months. But recently, I have had the urge to have those long dramatic looking lashes once again, especially for going out at night. I came across a list of the 7 best natural mascaras and why they were considered the best. Pure Soul by Afterglow Cosmetics caught my interest the most after reading all of the descriptions, Some of the others still had some sketchy ingredients and unknown chemicals that I just didn’t want to take a chance with. Pure Soul definitely lives up to it’s name. I have found this to be a wonderful product all around. It’s functionality is top notch and it exceeds my standards for effectiveness of mascara. It makes my lashes look super long and separates them without clumping. The product surpasses all that I have tried in all my years of wearing makeup (a good 15+). It lasts all day long and doesn’t run or give me raccoon eyes. The best part of it all is that it actually is made with all natural and organic ingredients without any harsh chemicals.
Here is a complete ingredient list for the mascara. I think it should be a company’ social responsibility to post all ingredients for every product they produce. Since the government doesn’t regulate what goes into cosmetics, we never know the dangers of what we are putting on our faces, lip, eyes, etc. Afterglow Cosmetics believes in full disclosure of the ingredients their products contain because they have nothing to hide.
